today was a truly nice day....not to hot not to cold so we decided to play 'hooky' and take the dogs to the kotima and spend the day...Lyle's sister and brother-in-law from AB have been visiting for a few days at the kotima...spent a quiet day relaxing and visiting...in the afternoon the Crew and I went for a walk..checked out the pasture..the water edge and sweet grass and went tramping in and around the wildlife lands....the pasture is ready for cattle grass is doing real well thanks to all the moisture...the sweet grass is awesome..lots of it is 4-5' tall ready for picking and braiding..the wildlife bush is bursting with high bush cranberries...they are so nice plump and juicy and so close to ready for picking...they seem to be ripening kinda strange-on a cluster some are close to overripe and on same bunch some are still white...(that's how the saskatoons ripened this year)..maybe just the year....but there are plenty out there....so that means cranberry ketchup this year in about2-3 weeks(hasn't been hardly any berries for past 2 years....this is all GOOD...we seen several groups of birds flocking...fall is sneaking up on us...we also noticed on the way out the combines are lined up and ready to go....my legs and hips are hurting tonight but I think after a bath and massage I'll be ready for a GOOD sleep...ICheck Spelling know the Crew are....this was a fun way to sneak up on the week-end......

today was a quiet but leisurely day..since Lyle was home we decided to take a day trip to Yorkton where our daughter lives....spent part of the day there...done some shopping and came home...since the flooding on July 1 that they had they have fungus patches everywhere..pictures show just one in their backyard.....since we had had such a busy day Lyle and the Crew needed to have a "presleep" after we had had supper..when I was out for my walk....and believe it or not today we picked up the 2010 Christmas Wishbooks...if that isn't bordering on depressing...all in all we had a GOOD day and the weather was even quite nice 21C I believe....just one of those days....am a bit tired and ready for a GOOD night sleep.....:)

Tuesday August 17,2010

well there is definitely a feel of fall in the air...the temperature dropped thro' the night and all day today has been quite chilly..spent the day catching up on this and that...last night we also had rain...the weather is suppose to warm up again and this will be welcomed..I don't think we are aware how close we are to fall and these past few chilly days have been an ugly reminder that sooon it will be upon us ...but hopefully we still have quite a bit of warm weather as there is still lots of things to do before the snow falls...I sometimes wonder "What is it about a mud puddle that attracts children and pets alike...the urge to step right in regardless of size with no regard for any consequence....I just wonder?"...today when I was waiting for my friend down town there was this puddle and in less than 10 minutes....3 children and 2 dogs wondered right thro' it....it was a GOOD day to watch this phenomena of the puddle.......

today was a low energy day..none the less I did manage to get my 10,000 steps in...went and had a pedicure and had my hair cut...the weather has really been strange...sunny but actually quite chilly and even a bit of rain..I spent a bit of time out in my flower beds weeding my hostas and some other perennials...cut the grass again...usually by this time in the year grass cutting is about every 2-3 weeks not this year we are still cutting at least once a week...I noticed today that my red currants are getting ready...they are so slow picking but they are so GOOD and worth the while......

Sunday August 15,2010

today was as I predicted a day to rest up....it is also 'needle' day and so after my needle I did spend the balance of the day in bed...altho' a kinda lazy day I did manage to get in my 10,000 steps before I bummed out for the day...a lazy but GOOD day......we'll see what the night brings....:) the sudden drop in temperature and the appearance of the golden rods indicate fall is just around the corner.......

this is what my kitchen table looked like after I was done my jams and pickles....took me a bit of time finding a home for all these and only 1 jar didn't seal....that's a GOOD thing!!!!!

Friday Aug. 13 and Sat. Aug 14, 2010

these two days have been spent either in a "pickle" or "jammed" up...Friday I went to our local farmer's market and purchased zucchini, beans and peppers as well as dill and a loaf of fresh bread...the beans and zucchini got turned into pickled beans and mustard beans...the zucchini into bread and butter pickles....the loaf of bread went with some vine ripened tomatoes from my garden...so had a couple three busy days..also done peach ,blueberry rasp/strawberry jam and a blend of black berries Saskatoon and blueberries......when all was said and done I have the equivalent of 73 pints of preserves....some for gifts and the rest for winter..probably finished canning for this year except for some tomatoes and maybe some salsa..we'll see what we harvest later....I am exhausted but it is all so GOOD and well worth the work...I do enjoy canning..gives a GOOD feeling of accomplishment..(since tomorrow is needle day I'll rest up then......):)
